Silent Hill 2: Everything We Know

The Silent Hill 2 remake, announced in late 2022, is a retelling of the classic survival-horror game released in 2001. The game will be available on PS5 and PC (via Steam) and will be made using Unreal Engine 5. The story follows writer James Sunderland as he searches for his long-dead wife in the eerie town of Silent Hill after receiving a letter that seems to be from her. Along the way, James encounters various ghastly horrors, including iconic enemies like Pyramid Head and the unhinged Eddie Dombrowski.

The gameplay of Silent Hill 2 remains true to the survival-horror genre, but with modern updates. The over-the-shoulder perspective replaces the zoomed-out view of the original game, leading to a full overhaul of the combat system and “certain set-pieces.” On PS5, the 3D audio technology will allow players to determine the source of sounds, while the NVMe SSD will eliminate loading screens. Haptic feedback and adaptive trigger support are also included, though their exact implementation has not been revealed yet.

The development of the Silent Hill 2 remake is led by Polish studio Bloober Team, with support from select members of the original Konami team. Bloober Team is known for their horror games such as Layers of Fear, The Medium, and Blair Witch, but Silent Hill 2 will be their highest-profile game to date.
