Google Launches One Final Stadia Game Before Shutdown

As a final farewell, Google launched one last game on Stadia, called Worm Game, before the service officially shut down on January 18th. The game was primarily used by the Stadia team to internally test the cloud streaming service.

“Worm Game” is a simple game where players control a worm and the objective is to eat the fruit on the screen. The worm becomes bigger as more fruit is eaten. It’s similar to the retro game Snake, but with extra modes and different levels.

In September 2022, Google announced that it would be shutting down Stadia, citing its inability to gain sufficient user traction as the main reason. Any Stadia purchases, hardware and software, would be refunded to all players.

Although Stadia is coming to an end, other companies are still exploring cloud streaming services, such as Amazon’s Luna and Xbox’s cloud streaming service. As for Stadia refunds, by January 18th, most refunds should have been processed. People who had an active Stadia Pro subscription as of September 29th will not be charged for accessing their library until the shut-down date, which means players have five more days, as of January 13th, to give their Stadia library one last browse.
