John Smedley, head of the Amazon Games Studios office in San Diego, has announced his departure from the company after a tenure of six years. During his time with Amazon, Smedley worked on various projects, though none of them have been released yet. He announced his departure in a company-wide email, stating that it was time for him to try something new. Smedley is best known for his work on massively multiplayer online games such as Everquest and Star Wars Galaxies. Andy Sites will be taking over as studio head and Smedley will assist in the transition process.

Smedley’s departure coincides with widespread layoffs at Amazon.
